Hello all,
I am cross posting this with the mobile list (just because I follow
that list the most and value their opinions a great deal)
Onto my problem: My father is a veterinarian and wants to move his
current web page to a new hosting provider. He asked me, his son/geek,
to help him out. So if you can help me, help him I would really
appreciate it. Here are my requirements:
First (since I am a BSD geek) is it MUST run a BSD, with FreeBSD preferred.
I googled and yahooed and yahooed and googled, but it seems like most
of the providers aren't very specific and may use windows or Linux, but
come up on a BSD search.
Next, it needs to be cheap.
This page doesn't get him business or anything. It is mostly just
information about his office and staff and pictures of peoples pets.
Definitely under $10 a month which doesn't seem to be unreasonable after
looking around a little.
Third some space needed, but not GBs.
It doesn't need to have a ton of space, but people send in pics of
their animals so it should have a little bit at least. Probably 50MB for
a minimum, and 100MBs or so would be nice just to be sure.
Their lines should also be pretty fast to help with the picture downloads.
Finally they must be reliable!
My father gets so frustrated with technology and I just want him to be
happy with the service.
Also the bandwidth isn't really a concern because he probably stays
under 500MB a month (sometimes under 100MB a month), and it seems like
most services start out around 1GB a month.
Thanks in advance for ideas, links, and especially personal experience
with hosting providers that meet these qualifications. (or feel free to
tell me about your own hosting if it meets these requirements)
thanks

The canonical recommendation: pair.com. They run FreeBSD, are extremely
reliable, and are a major supporter of FreeBSD development.
The second choice: Yahoo, for all the same reasons.

addr.com runs FreeBSD and starts at $7.95 a month
for 1 GB of storage and 40GB of traffic. Pay by the
year, and it's even cheaper.
I used them for years... the reason that's in the
past tense is a long story, but I wouldn't hesitate
to recommend them to fill this type of need. >> Stay informed about: Cheap FreeBSD web hosting recommendations? |

Here a list of webspace on a FreeBSD-based system
http://www.freebsd.org/commercial/isp.html
Hello
For Canada I saw these two web presences
http://www.smart-serv.net/; https://www.sevenl.net/create-new-account
I was prepared to use this freebsd.doc http://www.freebsd.org/doc/en_US.ISO8859-1/articles/remote-install/index.html if the systems where linux.
I'm going to try out smart-serv.net for a web forum.
